PVC Vacuum Forming Dome
PVC has good weather resistance and is used for clear covers for outdoor use. Vacuum forming is ideal for mass production of dome-shaped products because it only requires a single-sided mold.
This is a method of adhering a softened resin, achieved by heating a thin PVC sheet and vacuum suctioning it onto a mold. After molding, trimming is done to refine the shape. PVC is a material that has a wide range of resistances, including weather resistance, flame retardance, and electrical insulation, while being widely available and inexpensive to handle. Although a mold is required, it is relatively inexpensive compared to molds used in injection molding, and productivity is also good. Prototyping can be easily done using wooden molds or resin molds.
